3dmax mapping/rendering question?

I'm no 3dmax expert, so your help would be greatly appreciated.

- So what I'm trying to do is, I've got a picture where I added a cigarette (with help from some online tutorials I got the smoke effect etc ) into it. I just simply mapped the picture I'm using onto a box for the background and modeled and placed the cigarette to make it look plausible.

But when I render the short video, although the rendition of the cigarette appearance and effects satisfies me, the background picture also takes on the visual that it was rendered, which is NOT what I want. I want the background to stay completely still and just make the cigarette the only object to animate. How could I edit this to have the rendition not make the picture in the background flicker and make it look fuzzy etc?3dmax mapping/rendering question?
Choose Environment from the Rendering menu.

In the dialog that pops up press the Environment Map button, double click Bitmap in the list then pick your background picture.

Check the Use Map option.

Dont know if your version of max matches mine exactly, but the principle is the same for all of them.
