Both Max and Maya have their uses and strong/weak points, why learn just one tool?
I'd start with Maya but that is really down to personal preference.

you have to learn both 3ds max and maya... cuz 3ds max is like a basic to maya...
you can choose f 8 it is good and better then f6 . ok
It is good but if you want to make some picture both software is good and 3d max is easy then Maya so you have to learn 3dmax first and after that you can learn Maya
Maya is a most important software pls learn it and give us to new cartoonz ok

i think u should go for 3dmax......i know a frendof mine had similar interst .............she did it............shes quite successful................if u hav doubts....better.go for counselling......hp its helpful...
my suggestion is to buy a couple of programs, and leanr how to do some 3D art, some flash animation, and some basic computer graphics. see how you cope, and then think about studying it. no point enrolling in a long course if you're only going to struggle and hate it. (that's assuming of course you odn't already indulge in computer graphic already)

3dmax mapping/rendering question?
I'm no 3dmax expert, so your help would be greatly appreciated.

am working on a project, on architectal development in 3d max. I manage to build my building but the only thing i got trouble with is the windows. I tried several things but i didnt got the result i want. I want the windows of house to be realistics with reflection as a real photograph. Can anyone help me? for reflections you can just add a image as reflection map in the map roll-out in the materials pannel
but if u want the building reflections as well as the picture, raytrace the reflection map, and add the image in the background part of the raytrace background settings
this is presuming you are using the 3ds max renderers, i tend to use v-ray as a renderer for things like this, as the renders usually look better plus if you goin for a photo realistic building, lighting the scene using HDRI, will make it look much more realistic and have reflections (but increases render time) worth a look i recon
(so some of the steps above may miss out steps as it quite a while ago i used them 3ds max renderes)

Delete that shape from max(select hit delete)
Go back to Autocad file edit that shape or add more shapes if you want.Make sure they are at the right exact place. Save this file with a new name ( Say ';missing shapes.dwg'; )..then from this file delete all the other objects that have already gone to MAX and they are good there. Hit save.

I want to buy a laptop for 3dmax rendering which one should i go for??
I also did a lot of 3D Studio Max work. I was part of a high school robotics team. Rendering = all processing power. The highest benchmarking processor you can afford would be the best.
A variety of laptops would do the job, but as I said processor is the only thing that matters during the 3dsmax RENDER.

A variety of laptops would do the job, but as I said processor is the only thing that matters during the 3dsmax RENDER.

What are your SOURCE CAD drawings?
If they are ';.dwg';, and designed on Autocad, save them as ACAD rev 7 format (even if you are using Autocad 2007, as I do).
Then, you can import them into 3ds max 8 without problems.

I have a basic foundation in 3DMax rendering and now I would like to learn to use Vray to make things more realistic. Where and how do I use Vray? I cant seem to find it in Max. Any tips?How do you use VRay in 3DMax?

3d max is acomplete graphic tool set for animation, modelling, designing etc.where as character studio is embeded(some times) with 3dmax.its a character gererator tool(mostly human like 2 legged objects.
